Early influences & the birth of SOULS
Sazed started playing accordion at the age of 9 at the Chittagong radio station, and when his father, writer Mahbub Ul Alam on his return from USA (during 1950s) brought two 78 Lp back home, he instantly became fond of Ray Charles’ Black Orchestra. He started playing Ray’s music on accordion and harmonium. During this early period he also became very fond of Pakistani composer Sohel Rana’s Sindhi folkloric music. After returning from the Front in 1971 where he participated as a Freedom Fighter for the liberation of Bangladesh Sazed immersed himself into a musical career- a non-traditional one. He founded his first musical band named “Surela” in 1972. In 1973 Surela became more like a rock group experimenting with fusing Bengalee and Western music. Surela ultimately came to be known as SOULS. Sazed was very much inspired by rock bands and musicians such as CCR (John Fogerty), Crosby, Still, Nash and Neil Young, Carlos Santana, Booker T and the MGS, Rolling Stones and many others; these influences eventually helped SOULS transform into a more vocal- and instrumental-oriented band. His band SOULS won top prize in the first ever POP compeition in Bangladesh during 1970s and remained most popular band in the country.

Education & Inspirations
Sazed left Bangladesh for Denmark in 1980 and pursued education in Danish Art and Music school and Uppsala University of Sweden in anthropology and Ethnomusicology. He felt Indian music deeply, and went to Benares to learn sitar under the guidance of Raj Bahn. He also took tabla lessons from Neeraj Kumar of Allahabad.  In 1984 he went to Holland to study Indian music under Ustad Jamal Uddin Bhartiya and his son Roshan Jamal. Sazed became more devoted to sitar and very much inspired by Ustad Vilayet Khan’s composition. In 1987-1988 he studied music in Kolkata and Mumbai with veena player Ashit Banerjee, santoor player Dulal Roy and tablist Anil Shaha. In 1989 he received Indian scholarship for Indian classical music and attended University of Bombay but a year later, in 1990, he joined the Khairagar University in central India under the guidance of achariya Sri Bimlendu Mukherjee, father of one of the most prominent sitarists of India, Budhaditya Mukherjee. This was a turning point for Sazed in his career: his guru Sri Bimlendu Mukherjee not only explained him about sitar but also taught him about many important elements in life.

Music career and Collaborations
Throughout his music career, Sazed has teamed up with several renowned artistes and bands all over the globe, starting off with the Danish reggae group “Mowi Wowi”, before discovering Brazilian musician Nana Vasconcelos, Egberto Gismonti, Milton Nacimento, Gilverto Gil and Baden Powel and Berimbau, in Sweden. At different times, Sazed performed with the Venezuelan musician Marlon, the Indian sitarist Raj Bahn Shing, and along with Indian tabla player Neeraj Kumar, Lars Linnel (bass, Sweden), Igor Kneiz (guitar, Yugoslavia) and Ekke Björk (bass clarinet, Sweden), he formed an Indo jazz group known as “SANGAM”. With the help of the producer-composer Christin Lindqvist, Sazed and colleagues released their first CD Raga Marwa that came out in the market in 1993; this is succeeded by two others, Prem and Basana, released with the help of his old friend, Hákan. Sazed also performed with Baul Biswanath of India and sax player Johnny Vartel of Sweden. Sazed created a trio “Secret Journey” with him on sitar and percussion, Anatholi Bulkin on guitar and Marlon Tapedino on percussion, and this soon became a global event, with musicians from Cameroon, India, England and Sweden.

Sazed teamed up with “Amores”, a legendary percussion group of Valencia, with whom he released an album “Tinajas” (2003) that later received the first prize from Valencia province as the best contemporary music. Sazed’s collaboration included such artistes as the world’s best congo player Giovanni Hidalgo, Jose Alicia (Puerto Rico), composer-trombonist William Cepeda, renowned gypsy guitarist of Spain, Raimundo Amador (who performed with Sazed at the Nelson Mandela benefit concert in Elche, Spain in 2005 – its CD came out in 2006) . In June 2006 Sazed, along with many young musicians from Elche formed a band, also known as SOULS.

More recently, Sazed has made more than 30 compositions and is dedicated to sitar, guitar and a host of other musical instruments.

PROF.  ASHOK DUTTA
Shri Ashok Dutta was initiated in the art of tabla by his father Late Shri Shibendra Nath Dutta from a very young age. Then he learnt from from Roy Bhadur Keshab Chandra Banerjee and Sri Ananda Gopal Bandopadhyay. Subsequently, he received intensive training from the tabla Maestro Pandit Shankar Ghosh for more than 20 years. He also took special training from Pandit Gyan Prakash Ghosh.

A gold medalist from Pracheen Kala Kendra and an empanelled artiste of Indian council for Cultural relations, Ashok has been working as an associate guest lecturer at Rabindra Bharati University in Calcutta for more than 10 years. He has performed in various countries across the Globe  including. France, Holland, Russia, Switzerland, Ukraine, UK, Canada, Bangladesh and Estonia. Ashok has participated and performed in several prestigious music festivals in India and abroad like Dover Lane music conference, Ragmala (Toronto), Ragmala (Edmonton) etc.  

He has performed with renowned musicians like Pt V.G.Jog, Padmashree Girija Devi, Bidushi Lakshmi Shankar, Ustad Ghulam Sadique Khan, Pt Muneshwar Dayal, Pt Vidyadhar Vyas, Bidushi Kalyani Roy, Ustad Irshad Khan, Bidushi Purnima Chowdhury, Pt Arun Bhaduri, Pt Samaresh Chowdhury, Pt Gopal Mishra, Pt Kushal Das and more. His vast knowledge in classical vocal music has added another dimension to his musicianship and made him a versatile artiste.

Sazed Ul Alam
Influencias tempranas y nacimiento de los SOULS.
Sazed comenzó tocando el acordeón a la edad de 9 años en la estación de radio de Chittagong, y cuando su padre, el escritor Mahbub Ul Alam en su regreso de  un viaje a Estados Unidos ( alrededor de los años 50 ) trajo dos 78 Lp a casa, el pequeño Sazed quedó admirado de la Black Orquesta de Ray Charles. Fué entonces cuando comenzó a tocar la música de Ray en su acordeón y harmonium. Durante este temprano periodo también empezó a escuchar con mucho interés al compositor Paquistaní Sohel Rana con su música folclórica Sindhi.
Después de su regreso del Frente de guerra en 1971 donde participó para lograr la liberación de Bangladesh Sazed se dedicó por completo a desarrollar su carrera musical( la no tradicional). Fundó su primera banda músical llamada "Surela" en 1972. En 1973 Surela se convirtió en un grupo de rock experimentando con fusiones de Bengalí y música occidental. Surela por ultimo llegó a ser conocida con el nuevo nombre de SOULS. Sazed encontraba mucha inspiración en las bandas de rock y en músicos como CCR(John Fogerty), Crosby, Still,Nash y Neil Young, Carlos Santana, Booker T y los MGS, Rolling Stones y muchos otros; estas influencias eventualmente ayudo a los SOULS a transformarse en una banda más vocal e instrumental.Su banda SOULS ganó el primer premio en la primera competición de música POP de Bangladesh. Nunca antes se había organizado una competición con este estilo musical.Eran los años 70 y fueron los primeros que quedaron reconocidos como una de las bandas más populares del país.
 
Educación e Inspiración.
Sazed dejó Bangladesh en busca de nuevas experiencias y se fué a Dinamarca en 1980. Finalizó sus estudios en la escuela de arte y música Danesa y antropología y etnomusicología en la Universidad de Uppsala. Fué en Suecia donde se sintió profundamente atraído por la música clásica India y viajo a Benarés para aprender sitar bajo la guia de Daj Baln. También recibió lecciones de tabla de mano del profesor Ustad Jaman Uddin Bhartiya y su hijo Roshan Jamal. Sazed se sintió más inclinado hacia el aprendizaje del sitar y muy inspirado por las composiciones de Ustad Vilayet khan.
En 1987-1988 estudió música en Calcuta y Bombay con el músico Ahité Banerjee ( veena), el músico Dulal Roy ( santoor ) y Anil Shaha ( tablista ). En 1989 recibió una beca de la India para el estudio de música clásica India y atendió la Universidad de Bombay pero un año después, en 1990, fué admitido en la Universidad de Khairagar en El centro de la India bajo la guia de Achariya Sri Bilendu Mukherjee, padre de uno de los más prominentes sitaristas de India, Budhaditya Mukherjee. Esto supuso un cambio en la carrera de Sazed: su guru Sri Binlendu Mujerjee no solo le explicó a cerca del sitar sino que también le enseñó muchas cosas importantes de la vida.
 
Carrera musical y colaboraciones:
En toda su carrera musical, sazed se ha agrupado con muchos conocidos artistas y grupos de todo el mundo, empezando por su grupo danés de reagee "Mowi Wowi", antes de descubrir al músico brasileño Nana Vasconcelos, Egberto Gismonti, Milton Nacimiento, Gilverto Gil y Baden Powel además de Berimbau, en Suecia. En diversos momentos Sazed performó con el músico Venezolano Marlon, el sitarista indio Rahn Shing, y el tablista Neeraj Kumar, Lars Linnel(bajo, Suecia), Iger Kneiz (guitarra, Yugoslavia) y Ekke Börk (clarinete bajo, Suecia),. Formó también un grupo de música Indo Jazz conocido como Sagaz.
Con la ayuda de la productora y compositora Cristin Lindquist, Sazed y sus colegas grabaron su primer CD Marwa que salió al mercado en 1993. Este fué sucedido por otros dos Prem y Basana donde su mujer española diseñadora y pintora Dulce Quesada Magro (Dolça) ilustró las portadas combinandose esta vez así música y pintura en esta nueva etapa. Estos CD fueron producidos por su amigo Hákan.
sazed también dió un concierto con Baul Biswanath de India y Johnny Vartel( saxofón) de Suecia. Sazed creó el trio "Secret Journey" con él en el sitar y la percusión, Anatholi Bulkin en la guitarra y Marlon Tepedino en la percusión. Pronto se convirtió en un evento Global, con músicos de Camerún, India, Inglaterra y Suecia. Una vez ya en España Sazed se agrupo con "Amores" un grupo de percusión legendario de Valencia con el que grabó Tinajas(2003) que recibió el primer premio de la provincia de Valencia como mejor música contemporánea. Las colaboraciones de Sazed incluyen artistas de la talla de " Giovanni Hidalgo"y"José Alicea" de Puerto Rico, el compositor y trombonista "William Cepeda", el reconocido guitarrista gitano "Raimundo Amador", que performó con Sazed para el concierto benéfico para The Nelson Mandelas childrens fond" en Elche (España) en el 2005. Su CD salió en el 2006. En Junio de 2006 junto con jóvenes músicos de Elche formó la banda "Souls" donde cantaban las canciones de la mítica banda de Bangladesh. Más recientemente Sazed ha hecho más de 30 composiciones y esta plenamente dedicado al continuo estudio e investigación de su instrumento el sitar, guitarra y muchos otros instrumentos.
 
Ashok Dutta
Shri Ashok Dutta se inició en el arte de la tabla de la mano de su padre Shri Shibendra Nath Dutta desde muy temprana edad. Más tarde aprendió de Roy Badhur Keshab Chandra Banerjee y Sri Ananda Gopal Bandopadhyay. También recibió lecciones intensivas del maestro de tablaPandit Shankar Ghosh durante más de veinte años. Además tomó lecciones especiales de Pandit Guan Prakash Ghosh. Medalla de oro de Pracheen Kala Kendra y un prestigioso artista de el consulado indio de relaciones culturales. Ashok ha trabajado como profesor asociado en la Universidad Rabindra Bharati de Calcuta durante más de 10 años. Ha actuado en muchos paises incluidos Francia, Holanda, Rusia, Suiza, Ucrania, UK, Canada, Bangladesh y Estonia.
Ashok ha participado en diferentes festivales musicales de la India y el extranjero como la conferencia musical de Dover Lane, Ragmala(Toronto),Ragmala (Edmonton) etc. Ha actuado con músicos como Pt V.G,Jog, Padmashree Girija Devi, Bidushi Lakshmi Shankar, Ustad Ghulam sadique Khan, Pt  Muneshwar Dayal, Pt Viyadhar Vyar, Bidushi Kaliani Ray, Ustad Irshad Khan, Bidushi Purnina Chowdhury, Pt Arun Bhaduri, Pt Samaresh Chowdhury, pt Gopal , Mishra, Pt Kushal das y muchos más. Su amplio conocimiento en música vocal clásica ha añadido otra dimensión a su carrera musical y le ha convertido en un artista versátil.
