Music Africa Presents Zale Seck

 
Karibuni Radio & Music Africa present Senegalese griot Zale Seck opening acts to be announced, show 9 pm. doors 7 pm. $15 Born in Yoff, a fishing community on the Cap Vert coast of Senegal, Saliou "Zale" Seck was destined for the life of an artist-musician, coming from a long line of griots. At an early age he apprenticed in drumming on the Sabar and Djembe, before taking up the guitar. Combining his exceptional voice with his original compositions, Zale transmits his people's memory through lyrics of love and humanity. Zale has become an ambassador of the Lebou, a coastal people who traditionally make their living from the sea. In Senegal, Zale has had a long and successful career, starting with his first professional performance at the age of 11 years. With the formation of his own group, M'Balakh Daagu, in 1992, he has become well-known in Senegal, having played alongside the best Senegalese groups such as Etoile de Dakar, Youssou N'Dour, and the legendary Orchestra Baobab with whom he toured Europe on several occasions. He has also played twice at the DK 24 Festival organized by Youssou N'Dour in Dakar and has performed on radio and television networks such as Radio France and TV 5. Eager to widen his horizens and enrich his art, Zale Seck settled in Quebec in 2001, where he continues to pursue his career.
